People can take this insight several different ways, so I choose to relate this to the Gospel.
WHERE IS THE “RIGHT PLACE”?
The Gospel is the truth that becomes central to the life of a person who is a believer, saved by the sacrifice of God’s holy and righteous Son who took upon the sins of all those who would come to saving faith and repentance from sin.
Staying true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you are never in the wrong place.
It’s safe to say, none of us are fully valued by the world, in our work, the community we live or serve and even our family and friends. In each of these relationships, we are valued for certain skills, talents, service which we can provide others, rarely due to our simple existence.
The world economy of human relationships, well, it can be a bit like the government, the people and taxes. Property taxes for example, you can have a right to own your own private real estate property, unless you (if you live in such a country or state) fail to pay your property tax. The government, in effect, offers lip service to a citizen’s right as long as you provide something to the government that cannot control its own spending. The worldly relationship is like being employed regulated by a contract that can be dissolved for many reasons, or more ironically like being a renter of home in which you are lawful owner (this is why I believe real estate taxes are unconstitutional in the United States).
In our search for self-worth, we come to admit that we have something to offer of value. That can be hard for many people who are abused, marginalized, or persecuted. We often do not see how we become slaves in worship of a world system or rather, our own understanding.
So you will find favor and good insight
In the eyes of God and man.
5 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:4-6
If you feel valueless, perhaps we’re looking towards the wrong authority and need to acknowledge the one who you bear the eternal image of.
Our time perspective can be an issue also.
Sometimes that alienation hits in the most vulnerable spot: our marriage and family and yet Marriage and family are held to a higher standard in a gospel centered which is a Christ centered life.
Having God at the center of the most important relationship is especially intended in Marriage, since each partner tends to place, often unrealistic expectations in the other for the fulfillment of their own needs, essentially making an idol after our own self-fulfillment, perceptions of need, or of the ability for the spouse to meet expectations. While serving each other is essential, in humility to God the Creator who is the author of Marriage, is greater harmony possible.
‘You shall not make for yourself an idol—any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
9 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
10 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. – Deuteronomy 5:8-10
If you are dominated by idolatry in your life, you are in the WRONG PLACE.
Notice the time difference between to consequences of visiting iniquity versus the blessing of those who love God for who He is. That is, 3 or 4 generations (the damning nature of lawless human influence) compared to THOUSANDS (meaning infinite) of generations in the presence of God’s glory and grace.
God in the Bible declares: For one will hardly die for a righteous man, though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. – Romans 5:7-9
