26.03 Thoughts on Job

Here are some of my thoughts on the Book of Job with related thoughts drawn from all parts of the Bible .

By itself, The Book of Job is about ultimately trusting God despite all apparent circumstances, even in calamity.

Gods glory (characteristics and capabilities) is far greater than we can comprehend.

Even the filtered presence of God’s goodness would be so overwhelming to a sinful creature it drives even the prophets faces to the ground. Even Moses had to hide in the rocks to get a small wisp of God’s goodness. (Exodus 33).

In this life, people can and do suffer, even good people (though we are all sinners), though most are not as righteous as Job.

And Yahweh said to Satan, “Have you set your heart upon My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity. So you incited Me against him to swallow him up in vain.” – Job 2:3

Genuine faith tempered by suffering is like strengthening steel.

The finest theological explanations and intellectual intent in the midst of suffering may (or most definitely not) not help the person suffering whatsoever. No matter how right you think you are.

This life is a testing ground.

Be merciful to those who are suffering.

We are all made in God’s image.

Yet calamity can overtake any of us.

God works in ways that are a mystery to us but are profound evidence of His glory.

This life is only the beginning, those who endure will receive awards issued in heaven.

Hope in our gracious God who works all things for good for those who love him.

All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

Trust God and the ultimate hope of eternity with God.

What an amazing book on suffering and the fallen nature of the world.

Judgmentalism can be worse among friends and family.

The nature of this world is transitory but the things of God are eternal

The eternal hope overcomes temporary suffering.

Eternal hope is made possible by faith in God

Salvation is made possible by Christ taking upon Himself the sin of the world.

Only through Gods grace, repentance from sin and trust in the redeeming work of Jesus Christ do we have a real hope and salvation.

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (KJV)

But resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished among your brethren who are in the world.10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, strengthen, confirm, and ground you. 11 To Him be might forever and ever. Amen. -1 Peter 5:9-11

And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain. The first things passed away.”

And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” -Revelation 21:3-5
