What good is being broadminded, pragmatic, or perhaps self-righteous, an equivalent to morally ambiguous, if the end result is a departure from wisdom and the Truth?
Being narrow minded has some bad connotations, but it depends on the context, right?
You can be narrow minded in the preservation of something that is pure and undefiled, not to allow conditions that would put that condition in jeopardy, much like may people who have played fast and loose with their sexual behavior, or some more frivolous like adding tofu or peanut butter to a pizza topping.
Obviously, there are some situations where it pays not to be too broad minded, safety issues come to mind, you wouldn’t decide one morning that, “Today, I’ll treat Red Lights as Green lights, I feel open minded.”
When it comes to ones eternal salvation, we have to come to a decision whether Jesus Christ was a real person and was he telling the truth. He made some pretty extreme claims, like being God, and it is because of this the religious Jews (most of them) sought to kill him, to execute him because they knew Jesus’ claims were blasphemous, since they presumed his claims were both outrageous and false.
However, if they were true… and everything Jesus taught was the truth, what would that mean for you and your direction of your life and your eternal salvation?
The Bible is clear about God who declared in the Ten Commandments that lying is a sin. Because God is Holy and Righteous, He does not sin, therefore, He also can be counted on to tell the truth.
The epitome of the glory of perfectly good narrow mindedness results in focusing on a Godly life, which can feel like a narrowing down of passions and interests.
The Gospel its self is narrow in a simple way, allowing sinful humans to be accepted, not by works which can never bridge the chasm of God’s holy character on one side and human wretchedness and depravity on the other. Only God’s grace through Christ can make our being accepted by God. Christ imputes His righteousness upon those who place their trust on Christ and how he died for our sins so that we do not have to suffer God’s Justice.
The Narrow Gate
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
