FTW.48 Start a Father’s Journal

Fatherhood in a Technological World – Message #48

Here’s an idea that is good for the New Year: start a journal.

There are several reasons to start a journal of your experiences as a father especially when you first child is born and, if possible, for every child you have. Recording your thoughts and insights during the time when your child cannot consciously remember what happened in their life or do not have the benefit of others who can relay what happened is a treasure. Even if others can explain what happened, no one can replace a father’s insight, recorded on his own without a 3rd person filter.

Even if you did not start one when you child was young, what’s going on in your mind can be a great resource for when you child or children grow to become a father’s age, when they will value wisdom and experience rather than their previous self-absorption,

Wondering as adults how our childhood affected the way we think and behave could be better understood knowing the thoughts of our parents in our formative years. We may not agree with what they did, but we might learn to understand that they were also human with their own hopes, dreams and struggles.

May Peace, Happiness and Prosperity be yours for 2016.

Fathers of young children in today’s modern society are facing unprecedented challenges with the wave of technology allowing ever easier access to the internet. The effect on your children has and will have a great influence on their growth. As a parent, you may be feeling the anxiety of having to confront the challenges of being at the end of the rail of the powerful forces driving technology into the laps and hands of your children.

Your work is cut out for you are a father. Even though popular culture doesn’t do well to herald the value of the leadership role of men in the form of fathers, let me tell you right now, being a father in this time and age has never been more important.
