FTW.5: A price is paid for you to do nothing

Fatherhood in a Technological World – Episode #5

Actually I usually say, “In order for you to do nothing, it is costing someone else.” My intention is to help my child develop a sense of cause and effect, to instill some idea that we are all connected. If that doesn’t get the preferred reaction, then try step number two…

This is a concepts to work with, when the technology affected child get’s too caught up in playing games or gets struck with a measure of laziness or disobedience.
At first he or she may see only a benefit of not having to do some work, but there is a real consequence. It up to you as a parent to help them see around the corner and teach them how their sloth or otherwise errant behavior will in fact cause them to lose something they actually value, something greater than to momentary false sense of peace by skating out of some responsibility.

There are times when punishment comes in the form of a penalty and sometimes doing what’s right deserves a reward. Although it does not fall within the scope of my video, it is more often best to instill in your child that the best reward for doing the right thing is the act itself.

Be liberal with praise when it is deserved, perhaps they will have a improved response the next time.
